Tail Of The Dragon - Summer 2009
TCT shall slay the Dragon in '09!
We talked about doing this way back in '06 and nothing really ever came of it, but this time I think we should actually plan it out way in advance.
More info here.
It's just over 1,030 miles from MN, so if gas prices are back up to about $3/gal by then, and your car gets about 27mpg hwy, that's $228 in gas to get there and back. That's considerably less than the average round-trip airline ticket these days, especially if you split gas with a passenger. If we were plan ahead we could get reservations in one of the nearby towns and we could devote a full day there, and 2 days each way for 5 days total in the trip.
What do you guys think?

I think if we do this is should be sometime mid-July to Aug. I won't have any money to do this otherwise, plus this allows everyone to start their summer jobs again and make some money.

I'm still down for late summer, I need to get a job and make money before this happens. I think we should try and make plans in the next month or so and maybe work a price for the entire trip.

so far so good... I'm not sure if I want to drive or not. I do have an american muscle car-not too well known for their agility. I'll have to think about it... I'd be up for riding otherwise

That would be good; if we have passengers we won't need to take as long to get out there, possibly cutting the trip down to 3 days.

I made the comment to Justin the other night that going to the "Tail" would be a waste of time. I don't know if any of you are aware of how patrolled this road is, and on top of that the speed limit is 35 of something. So really its just a nice sceinic drive through the mountains. Personally I think it would be more fun to go somewhere else like Washington D.C., New York, or anywhere out west. You guys should post what you think.

OLD THREAD BUMP POWERS ACTIVATE. Buddy of mine drove through here in his subie wagon on his way back to MN. No cops, and he almost died a couple times. Cops or not, 35mph is plenty fast to make you shit your pants if that's what you're going for..
